In 2001, Monaco resident, Michael Pass, agreed with an associate to introduce a new service for leisure boat
owners in Mallorca. In short, the aim was to protect the hulls of both steel (painted) and gel-coat constructions.
A sole use agreement was initiated and Permagard (Mallorca) was formed.
Unfortunately, it soon became apparent that the Permagard treatment was not ‘good for purpose’ resulting
in a number of Palma’s boat owners, where Permagard had been applied, becoming very dissatisfied
Michael was left with no alternative but to source a new product and accordingly approached chemicals
market leader, Dow Corning. Coincidentally Dow had, previously, partially developed a durable polymer for
similar purposes and following a period of tweaking and extensive testing, Michael commissioned the first
production of what became Proguard IE2000. Michael then severed his relationship with Permagard and
our company Proguardplus Mallorca SL was registered and incorporated in Mallorca.
Before embarking upon the procedures of developing markets for our services, Michael contacted all those
whose boats had been treated with the Permagard product with an undertaking to re-treat with IE2000 at
absolutely no additional cost. Upon completion of these correctional procedures, Michael’s reputation for both
fair play and integrity was restored.
During the ensuing years, Proguardplus have gone
from strength to strength. We have proved
ourselves to be the market leaders by providing our
services to a large number of boats who both lay in
or visit the many marinas of Mallorca. Furthermore,
utilizing ongoing developments of bio-chemicals, we
continue to improve our, already unrivalled, products.
Having established ourselves in Mallorca in the previous six years or so, In 2007 we re-organized our structure
by registering a “Holdings Company”. Our current business model includes an offer to potential operations
partners worldwide. And in view of the current ‘business downturn’ we aim to be remain flexible when negotiating
licenses, franchises etc. Giving those who wish to join in our success time to establish a sustainable foothold
wherever they aim to operate.
To date Proguardplus has opened a ‘wholly owned’ branch office in Milan. We have service personnel busy
fulfilling a busy order book in the region around Luca, while Michael is currently completing negotiations for
‘sole use’ licenses with Ferretti, Azimut/Benetti, and Perini Navi. Incidentally Ferretti and Benetti are
currently rigorously testing our products and the indications show both to be extremely impressed.
Further a field, “Head of Terms” contracts have been agreed with new partners in USA and New Zealand plus
we anticipate similar agreements to be accepted in Dubai, Asia and the UK.
Our Mallorca service personnel have treatments outstanding in both Barcelona and Tarragona, Spain, where
both clients are keen to formalize agreements for our products.
Finally, notwithstanding the current global trading difficulties,
we at Proguardplus feel that our services present a cost saving
opportunity for boat owners worldwide. Those who feel their
boats are due a re-paint may prefer to defer some of this
expense by painting a part of the boat now while having the
remainder “Proguarded”. Then reversing these procedures in a
subsequent year. Thus spreading their costs while ensuring
their boats long term condition.
